About Me

Hi! My name is Zulu and there’s only one thing you really need to know: I’m passionate about travel; seeing new places and experiencing cultures that put me out of my comfort zone.

I graduated with a degree in Computer Science from Birmingham in 2012 and worked for a year, saving money throughout in the hopes of buying an apartment. But, things change. When the company I was working for announced they were relocating, I had two options: go with them and continue working in an office job from 9 to 5 every weekday, or quit and do something interesting with my life.

The latter sounded much more appealing, so I handed in my notice and booked my first flight to Portugal. From there, my travel plans boomed. I had the money in the bank to travel for a few years (on a budget of course) and decided to make the most of my early 20s.

Since Portugal, I’ve toured Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California and Washington in the USA, before moving on to Canada, visiting British Columbia and Alberta.

Next up? Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Grand Bahama and Australia, where I will spend a year, hopefully with flights out to Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

After that, who knows? I have an idea, but that’s quite a way in the future.

    Hey great blog.
I am doing part of the indochina trip from HCM city to Bangkok, I will be starting the tour in feb 14 so just have some questions if you are able to answer.

    1. What’s the weather like in all the places you go to?

    2. What are the essential things you packed, type of clothes etc.

I think that’s it for now.

Hey James, thanks! Are you going west? As in, through Cambodia? If so, the weather should be warm enough for you – be sure to take something warm anyway though, especially if you’re doing Angkor Wat at sunrise!

With regards to what to pack, take enough underwear to last you the time you’re going (you may not come across laundry), swim trunks (for Sihanoukville), sunglasses (preferably polarised) etc. I’d recommend taking malaria tablets (doxycycline is cheaper and has fewer side effects than Malarone) but it’s not essential and your obvious stuff like enough cash.

You can buy snacks from local shops before long bus journeys and there are usually towels at the hotel to take down to the beach when you need to.

      Oh, and a camera!
